The Board of Scientific Affairs (BSA) established an Advisory Group on Conducting Research on the Internet in 2001. The charge of the Advisory Group (AGCRI) was to explore emerging ethical and scientific issues related to the conduct of research over the Internet. The Advisory Group met during 2002 and subsequently issued a report that looks at the opportunities and challenges of conducting research on the Internet and that provides a set of suggestions for researchers and for Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) that oversee this type of research.

A condensed report was published in February/March 2004 issue of the American Psychologist. The article looks at the opportunities and challenges of conducting research on the Internet and provides suggestions for researchers and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) who oversee this type of research. See below to access the report.
